Here’s an excerpt from “The Essence of Zen: The Teachings of Sekkei Harada” translated by Daigaku Rumme.
Being is conceived in the womb,
Becoming a person takes place in the world,
Seeing is done with the eyes,
Hearing is done with the ears,
Smelling is done with the nose,
Speaking is done with the mouth,
Carrying is done with the hands,
Walking is done with the feet.
This is what is called buddha-nature.

I’ve always been weirded out when people ask for publicity photos of me. Yeah I know, you’re all probably wondering what’s the big deal, right? Just give someone a photo. But it’s not that easy. So many freaking places have certain criteria they have to fill, whether for online radio advertisements, mags, newspapers, or online ventures. And it’s been challenging for me to create such an image, much less find one in my assortment. Most publicity places (at least the majority of the ones I’ve encountered) often ask for incredibly boring-conservative poses (that to me seem like: ‘I’ve got a stick up my ass’). It’s become a rather nuisance for me when it comes to photos - so for many months, I’ve stopped doing publicity work involving photography.
I know this is going to sound strange to some, but watching Marilyn Monroe in the movie “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” actually inspired me to take this photo tonight. It’s sexy, conservative, revealing, tasteful, and somewhat mysterious. If Marilyn Monroe can do sexy publicity photos, by golly I’m gonna do my dandest to come up with something. I’m no Marilyn, but she sure as hell inspires me (hence why I have her tattooed on my back).
This is a self-portrait… did it in my living room using a professional backdrop, wearing a beautiful diamond necklace that a devotee bought for me. I tried to be the most natural I could, while wearing a wig similar to my own hair to balance fantasy and realism.
Ra! Ra!
